Message regarding the cancellation of spring activities/sports for the 2020 season:
Last night, the Alaska School Activities Association announced the cancellation of all 2020 spring events, championships, regular season contests, and practices. This includes all-state art, solo and ensemble, track and field, boys and girls soccer, baseball, and softball. My heart goes out to all the students hoping to participate in these activities. No doubt that the decision to cancel these activities was an extremely difficult one. As educators, we are constantly striving to provide our students with opportunities to demonstrate excellence. The cancellation of these activities obviously inhibits the ability to do so; however, we will persevere and find new avenues of success. During these difficult times, it is essential that we all see the obstacles in front of us as not roadblocks, but instead opportunities to navigate a new course. Stay focused on your life’s journey and don’t allow these events to deter you from your ultimate destination. Circumstances are never the defining moments of a journey, it is ultimately the decisions and actions of an individual that determine where and how they arrive. I implore all of our students to stay focused, stay motivated, and stay vigilant in doing your part to combat the situation we find ourselves in and continue to seek opportunities to live life to its fullest.
For all of our seniors, I am extremely sorry that you will all not have that “final opportunity.” This is something that all athletes crave, a final chance to lay it all on the line and compete with everything you have. There is nothing that I or your coaches can say in these moments to help fill that void. However, we will do our best to honor everything you have accomplished throughout your careers at Soldotna High School. I have asked coaches to send me information about all of their senior athletes/musicians/artists so that we can provide them with one last opportunity to be celebrated. While this will never make up for the ability to celebrate these moments on the field/track with your teammates, I hope that it will provide both students and parents with one last chance to reflect and smile.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Stay healthy and safe and I look forward to seeing all of our athletes once again competing in the near future.

All student-athletes need to complete 10 practices before participating in a competitive event. A student-athlete cannot be considered eligible to practice until a physical and paperwork is on file with the school. Also, participation fees must be paid before the first scheduled trip of the season (or at a prior date set by the coach). Soldotna High School will be utilizing Arbiter Athlete for electronic filing of all paperwork. Please use the link below to access Arbiter Athlete.
